Fighting Malice

Plot Summary

Hannah Olson is a human teenager, living in a modern fantasy world full of magic and superheros. She spent her life looking up to the heroes of Accardinal city, dreaming she could be like them. One day she gets that opportunity, when she meets and befriends a magic salamander who she names Sizzle McSpicey Pants. She quickly discovers that her bond with Sizzle granted her fire magic, and she decides to live her dream. She’s noticed before her inexperience with magic hurts anyone, and is recruited to one of the most well-known hero organizations as a result: The Order Of Light. This opportunity grants her the ability to meet her idol Illumine, to live comfortably out of the closet as a trans woman, and to train to be a hero just like she’s always wanted. But the further she gets into her training and becoming an official order member, the more she starts to uncover about what happens behind the scenes that the news feeds don’t cover. Hannah finds herself empathizing with villains, questioning her superiors and uncovering webs of hypocrisy throughout The Order.

The Order Of Light

An organization of hero's founded by world famous hero Illumine. They keep Accardinal city safe from powerful magic threats that regular authorities struggle to manage. The group and many of it's members are well known.

Phoenix

Real name: Hannah Olson
Species: Human
Power(s): Pyrokinisis, fire resistance, flight (artifical)

15 year old human blessed with magic by an amphibian. She doesn’t have much life experience but won’t let that stop her from trying to brighten everyone else’s life. She’s energetic, impulsive, and loves animals more than anything.

Eclipse

Real name: Anthony Dracos
Species: Mixed celestial
Power(s): proficiency in angelic and demonic magic

Easily annoyed, but undyingly loyal. Eclipse has been a member of The Order for two years, taking the job after Illumine personally recruited them from a small vigilante group. They’re responsible for training Phoenix, who’s always on their last nerve.

Duplitrix

Real name: Marissa Griffen
Species: Human
Power(s): Self duplication

Empathetic, brave and empathetic again. She grew up with very little, and is now an accomplished hero and a surgeon in her civilian life. She donates her time and money to making sure everyone gets the chance to be the best person they can be. Her duplicates all have their own personalities and values. Responsible for training Chameleon.

Chameleon

Real name: Spencer
Species: Changeling
Power(s): Shapeshifting, acting proficiency

As soon as he gained legal autonomy, Spencer quit his job as an actor to try and do something he felt mattered to the world. He found his way to The Order, and is now being trained for spy work. He has anxiety problems that he needs to conquer before he can even consider going out into the field. He became quick friends with Hannah once she joined.

Illumine

Real name: Theodore Woodward
Species: Angelic celestial
Power(s): angelic magic proficiency, perfect aim

Illumine is a famous hero, having been protecting Accardinal City since its founding. His popularity spiked when he founded one of the first hero organizations, motivating other cities to form similar groups as a result. He’s very reactive, but easily manages to hold himself and The Order together despite that. He’s very focused on reputation.

The Lambs Of Malus

A growing religious group that worship Malus, the god of chaos and self indulgence. They're dedicated to spreading the word of their god, although they tend to have questionable methods, including using the Gwyllion, a small group acting in Onyx’s command, to do various shady tasks for the benefit of the group.

Onyx

Species: Demonic celestial
Power(s): demonic magic proficiency

The leader of The Lambs of Malus. Onyx got tired of seeing society misrepresent his goddess Malus, and decided to start his temple as a means to change that. He’s extremely competitive, and will do any underhanded thing to get an advantage against an enemy. After a long history of mistreatment, he has a distrust for angels and worshippers of the god Sactus. He has a soft spot for animals, especially cats.

Darien

Species: Elf
Power(s): Illusionist, mind manipulation

Sub leader of The Lambs, and long time friend of Onyx. Darien is a refugee from an elvish kingdom who tried to persecute him for his ties to Malus, and now happily supports Onyx in his endeavors with The Lambs. He’s an expert in magic that involves exploring and molding the minds of others. Darien will do anything to avoid seeing others face the same discrimination that he has in the past, and is extremely spiteful to his enemies.

Siren

Real name: Tristan
Species: half elf, half human
Power(s): music induced mind control, externally granted demonic magic

Active leader of The Gwyllion. On Onyx’s order, he’s taking a hiatus from his music career to focus on The Lambs. During his first mission as leader, he immediately fell for Eclipse, who the Gwyllion were investigating. Tristen gets extremely obsessive, and is generally dismissive about other’s feelings. His behavior has been getting worse since Onyx gave him a crystal that granted him the ability to use demonic magic.

Erinyis

Real name: Ryder Hart
Species: Human
Power(s): non-magical, weapons proficiency

Strategist for the Gwyllion, and jack of all trades with weaponry. Even when the other two Gwyllion are inactive, he’s still active as Erinyis. He joined the group as a commitment to a lost friend, and now has to juggle his reluctant commitment to the Gwyllion with his worsening mental health. He hopes one day he won’t have to answer to Onyx anymore. His favorite weapons are one handed swords.

Oni

Real name: Belladonna
Species: Human
Power(s): non-magical, melee weapon proficiency

Impulsive and ready to fight, Oni is happily loyal to The Gwyllion, and The Lambs of Malus as whole. She’s been a member of The Lambs her entire life, and doesn’t trust outsiders. Bella is very energetic, and supportive to those close to her, but can quickly become intimidating to everyone including her allies. Siren is her best friend, and she spends most of her time with him if she can help it. She uses a baseball bat stuck with nails as a weapon.

Landon

Species: human
Power(s): non-magical

Landon and Hannah sit together in their engineering classes at school. The two aren’t that close, and Landon mostly talks to her because they make such a good team for class projects. He’s one of the best in the class, assuming he bothers to do the work. He usually keeps to himself unless he needs something. He looks up to The Order of Light, especially Illumine.

Victor

Species: human
Power(s): non-magical

Victor is one of the best engineers in the country, and is employed at the tech company Magix Security. He’s built a lot of tech for The Order, including Phoenix’s wings. He’s a hermit, and is always spending time building something, even when it isn’t for a job.
